Sullivan Street

about

This is an improvisation on the oud. The last piece of music I recorded in 2021 at my apt on Sullivan street in NYC where I lived for 32 years. Situated on the edge of Soho with a an Italian and Portuguese community, the street had a church and a nunnery which besides the obvious mafia presence, I think helped it not become completely Soho-ized over the time I lived there. When I moved in the street still had boarded up corner stores used to 'watch' the block, a 'social club' obviously not for the general public and guys who 'kept an eye' on the block at different locations. The first 10 years i was there the Feast of St. Anthony was held every spring on the block. So this is my little musical meditation to a street that will always hold a very dear place and many beautiful memories in my heart.
